Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa spoke to us about his journey from rural Mexico to the Jacksonville campus of Mayo.  Born in a small Mexican village, he overcame numerous challenges to become a world renowned neurosurgeon and neuroscientist. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and the pursuit of knowledge. Entering the United States at age 19, he worked as a migrant farmworker and train cleaner, learned English, completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of California Berkeley, then went on to Harvard Medical School. As he says in the Netflix Documentary, The Surgeon’s Cut, “I went from harvest to Harvard in less than 7 years.” His talk was inspiring and memorable!
