October  2024

After a fascinating presentation in September on the history of Marineland, the SWC travelled to Crescent Beach to see it for themselves.  They had a guided tour of the facility, seeing the elements described in the September presentation as well as seeing the dolphin interaction and education pool up close.

The SWC Daytrippers experienced a docent-led tour of Cummer Museum including a special exhibit "Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800 to 1960". This exhibition is the first to explore the evolution of women’s sporting attire in Western fashion, looking at the extraordinary impact of new technologies and evolving social mores on women’s clothing for sport. Inspired by a circa 1946 wool scarf inscribed with the word “Outdoorgirl” and featuring illustrations of women engaged in thirteen different sporting activities, this exhibition charts the cultural and material developments that allowed women to make their way outdoors. A delicious lunch was enjoyed after the tour at the Cummer Cafe.

In March the Daytrippers gathered at the Jacksonville Arboretum and Botanical Gardens for a tour of what is called “the hidden jewel” in Northeast Florida.  The Arboretum opened in November 2008 – covering 120 acres, offering 7 natural trails through 13 distinct ecosystems.  The group was guided by a master naturalist through the ecosystems, pointing out native trees and plants and explaining each of the ecosystems.  

February  2024

On Wednesday, February 28th, 20 SWC members took a 2-hour walking tour of Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood. This is the area that stretches along the St. John’s River from the Cummer Museum to Avondale and includes Memorial Park and the area called Five Points. The walk was led by popular guide Gary Sass of AdLibTours who has led several DayTrippers tours for us in the past. They gathered afterwards at the Blue Orchid Restaurant.

January  2024

After Vicki Oakes, the Supervisor of Elections for St. Johns County spoke to the SWC in October, we were inspired to tour the facility where elections volunteers are trained, ballots are counted, and election integrity is maintained.

November  2023

A wonderful group of women toured the USS Orleck on November 1st.  This Gearing-class destroyer is now moored in downtown Jacksonville and is serving as a maritime museum.  After the tour, everyone was treated to lunch catered by Biscotti's.

April  2023

After hearing all about the PGA headquarters last month, the SWC was invited to bring 20 women for a tour of the new facility.

We had a magnificent opportunity to hear the Jacksonville Symphony at the Friday morning Coffee Concert.  The 1-hour Pops Concert included music by Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber and other virtuosos of American theatre.

DayTrippers took a Jacksonville Walking Tour with professional guide, Gary Sass, from AdLib Luxury Tours. he  conducted the 2-hour tour of the central business district and included going inside several of the buildings to view the interesting history of Jacksonville.  Ladies gathered for lunch downtown after the tour.

Members has an interesting tour of the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, followed by lunch at Columbia Restaurant

Ladies enjoyed a beautiful day at the Ponte Vedra Beach Croquet Club as they learned some Croquet skills. After they lessons, they enjoyed a box lunch.

We took an interesting Walking Tour of St. Augustine with Tour Guide Gary Sass.  He lead us down narrow passageways and in and out of court yards to bring out the best of the Oldest City in the US.

A tour of the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall was an interesting look into this community music venue.  The group learned a lot about this local gem and got a behind=the-scenes look into the operations.

The Day Trippers toured the newly completed Sawgrass Clubhouse.  Assistant General Manager Perry Kenney led the group through the facility, providing interesting facts about the construction and transition process.  Executive Chef Michael Meuse took us through the state-of-the-art kitchen and awed us with the new technology and capabilities of our staff!

The facility exemplifies the values of the PGA TOUR by engaging with the surrounding green landscape and creating an uplifting and inspiring environment for its staff, players and visitors alike.  Amazing!
